Preparing for the trip

Captain Jerry has been making the final preparations to North Star, our 32 foot Cape Island down east trawler. We are anxious to leave our landlubber lives behind and begin our long awaited journey around the Great Circle. Join us as we travel 10, 000 kilometers: through the historic Trent Severn Waterway; the pristine waters of Georgian Bay; the North Channel of lake Huron; and hop from beach to beach on lake Michigan. We will visit Chicago and begin our trek along the rivers: Illinois; upper Mississippi; Ohio; Cumberland: Tennessee; Tenn-Tom Waterway and the Black Warrior. We will have transited through 68 locks at this juncture. We have chosen the inner route from Mobile Alabama to Tarpon Springs Florida and the shorter Ocheechobee Waterway to reach the East coast of Florida. We will skip over to the Bahamas to wait out the winter before heading North on the Atlantic Inter Coastal Waterway.
The 10 years of researching and planning are finally at an end and we invite you to come along on our adventure.

On the hard at Glades

North Star is not floating she is on the hard at Glades boat Yard for a much needed bottom job.  While we were busy having fun at Bonita Bill's, all manner of creature were attaching themselves to our boat for a free meal.
We spent yesterday scraping and it looks like today will be much the same. Even the first mate was put to work.
We are catching up with old friends at happy hour and meeting new ones of course. One lady from Mint Julep spent last year battling breast cancer. She also lost her 55 yer old sister to an aneurysm at the same time. A chap on Rositta underwent radiation treatment for prostate cancer. Life is short and fragile, enjoy every moment that you can.
We are moving some of our load to Hemingway one more time, this is our last chance to unload. Hope there wont be too many more yard sales and flea markets.
We should be here until Tuesday or Wednesday.

  1. Glad to see the crew is workin' away....wouldn't want you to be having too much fun since you will need to ease back into reality soon. B-day lunch for Jocelyn with siblings and the mom. Wish you were here.
