Preparing for the trip

Captain Jerry has been making the final preparations to North Star, our 32 foot Cape Island down east trawler. We are anxious to leave our landlubber lives behind and begin our long awaited journey around the Great Circle. Join us as we travel 10, 000 kilometers: through the historic Trent Severn Waterway; the pristine waters of Georgian Bay; the North Channel of lake Huron; and hop from beach to beach on lake Michigan. We will visit Chicago and begin our trek along the rivers: Illinois; upper Mississippi; Ohio; Cumberland: Tennessee; Tenn-Tom Waterway and the Black Warrior. We will have transited through 68 locks at this juncture. We have chosen the inner route from Mobile Alabama to Tarpon Springs Florida and the shorter Ocheechobee Waterway to reach the East coast of Florida. We will skip over to the Bahamas to wait out the winter before heading North on the Atlantic Inter Coastal Waterway.
The 10 years of researching and planning are finally at an end and we invite you to come along on our adventure.

Green Cove Springs-Jacksonville

Green Cove Springs
We completed our chores in Polatka and decided to make way.  It was really hot and the forecast was for wind, thunderstorms and hail so we thought we would get going since this part of the river is wide and can get rough.
We stayed in Green Cove springs last night.  We had dinner at our cheap little Chinese Restaurant and went for a night cap at Corner Pocket pool hall type bar.  Not much action in Green Cove Springs on a Friday night,  We went back to the boat for a movie and an early night to be up and at it on Saturday early.
It was hot yesterday...the thermometer on our back deck at 3:00
We arrived in Jacksonville at 10:00 to find the dock quite full.  We are under the main street bridge at Jacksonville Landing.  Not a bad place to be when hail is on the way.  It is raining hard and we did have thunderstorms earlier.  We went on a 3 hour bus ride to get more paint at West Marine.  We got caught in the rain and got soaked.  There is live outdoor music here but we have yet to be able to get to it.  We are staying tomorrow because the forecast is not good.  We will start heading north n the ICW on Monday.  We are going home and should be there in 2 months.
