Preparing for the trip

Captain Jerry has been making the final preparations to North Star, our 32 foot Cape Island down east trawler. We are anxious to leave our landlubber lives behind and begin our long awaited journey around the Great Circle. Join us as we travel 10, 000 kilometers: through the historic Trent Severn Waterway; the pristine waters of Georgian Bay; the North Channel of lake Huron; and hop from beach to beach on lake Michigan. We will visit Chicago and begin our trek along the rivers: Illinois; upper Mississippi; Ohio; Cumberland: Tennessee; Tenn-Tom Waterway and the Black Warrior. We will have transited through 68 locks at this juncture. We have chosen the inner route from Mobile Alabama to Tarpon Springs Florida and the shorter Ocheechobee Waterway to reach the East coast of Florida. We will skip over to the Bahamas to wait out the winter before heading North on the Atlantic Inter Coastal Waterway.
The 10 years of researching and planning are finally at an end and we invite you to come along on our adventure.

Arcadia

Our stay in Frankfort was interesting.  We met several Loopers and some of the locals. There is a fishing tournament next week end and the fishing boats have arrived a week early. They look like they are serious with 15 poles per boat and down riggers. There was a parade of red lights coming in in the dark and lining up to the launch to take their boats out. These folks are tenacious.  This morning there was a parade of green lights as they went out before light of day.
We left at 7:00 this morning and the wind is out of the West on our beam. We went 11 miles and had to tack to keep North Star from rolling too much. That was enough for us, even the fishing fleet is taking shelter.  The forecast was for waves less than 2 feet but it does look like 4 feet now, not comfortable. Luckily Lake Michigan has anchorages every 10 miles or so.  We are in Arcadia in a nice little bay with good protection from the West and North West wind.  We will wait this out.  Since we are close to a highway, we have internet access with Virgin Mobile.  If you don't see a posting, it is because we are too far from a highway and not at a marina.
