North Star on the Great Loop Journey: Osprey Marina in Myrtle Beach

Preparing for the trip

Captain Jerry has been making the final preparations to North Star, our 32 foot Cape Island down east trawler. We are anxious to leave our landlubber lives behind and begin our long awaited journey around the Great Circle. Join us as we travel 10, 000 kilometers: through the historic Trent Severn Waterway; the pristine waters of Georgian Bay; the North Channel of lake Huron; and hop from beach to beach on lake Michigan. We will visit Chicago and begin our trek along the rivers: Illinois; upper Mississippi; Ohio; Cumberland: Tennessee; Tenn-Tom Waterway and the Black Warrior. We will have transited through 68 locks at this juncture. We have chosen the inner route from Mobile Alabama to Tarpon Springs Florida and the shorter Ocheechobee Waterway to reach the East coast of Florida. We will skip over to the Bahamas to wait out the winter before heading North on the Atlantic Inter Coastal Waterway.
The 10 years of researching and planning are finally at an end and we invite you to come along on our adventure.

Osprey Marina in Myrtle Beach

We went two miles up river this morning to get to Osprey Marina in Myrtle Beach. We are 12 miles from the action but the price is right and the fuel is cheap. It is a nice clean marina with a little store and very nice folks. One of the employees drove Jerry into town to get our propane filled. There is a restaurant whose owner will pick you up and once you have eaten in their establishment, they will let you get groceries and drive you back to your boat.
We had a nice visit with Bruce and Anne who are on their way home to Belleville. They came by with their hosts, Dawn and Don who live in Belleville close to where we lived. Very nice folks, it sounds like everyone is having a good time.
We had a thunderstorm this afternoon and it is raining again. We are glad to be at a marina to wait out this weather. There is a severe weather watch in effect until 9:00 tonight. This is a well protected basin so no worries.
