Preparing for the trip

Captain Jerry has been making the final preparations to North Star, our 32 foot Cape Island down east trawler. We are anxious to leave our landlubber lives behind and begin our long awaited journey around the Great Circle. Join us as we travel 10, 000 kilometers: through the historic Trent Severn Waterway; the pristine waters of Georgian Bay; the North Channel of lake Huron; and hop from beach to beach on lake Michigan. We will visit Chicago and begin our trek along the rivers: Illinois; upper Mississippi; Ohio; Cumberland: Tennessee; Tenn-Tom Waterway and the Black Warrior. We will have transited through 68 locks at this juncture. We have chosen the inner route from Mobile Alabama to Tarpon Springs Florida and the shorter Ocheechobee Waterway to reach the East coast of Florida. We will skip over to the Bahamas to wait out the winter before heading North on the Atlantic Inter Coastal Waterway.
The 10 years of researching and planning are finally at an end and we invite you to come along on our adventure.

Toms Creek Anchorage

Typical home in Beaufort Sc
We managed to get all our chores done before the rain came. We even had a nice dinner at Q on Bay restaurant. Not all that good since we don't like pulled this and that. They pull pork, chicken and beef and soak it in a bar-b-que sauce that most folks like but not us. We went for the seafood and the wonderful view.
We are anchored in Toms Creek (N32 38.7883 and W80 16.9350), I am not sure what city we are near but I have added the location with google earth.  Just click on location below.

Large verandas
travelling trough narrow shoal cuts

The scenery is improving with more trees on the shore. The land is still quite flat.  We went mostly east today so we are not very far north and the weather is still hot. There is a lot of shoaling especially since we left Beaufort on an ebb tide.  A sailboat we were following had to stop and wait out the tide at one of the cuts.  Other trawlers were calling us to find out what depths we were encountering.
Toms Creek anchorage, we still have palm trees
We are only staying here for the afternoon and evening and we will carry on tomorrow.
