Preparing for the trip

Captain Jerry has been making the final preparations to North Star, our 32 foot Cape Island down east trawler. We are anxious to leave our landlubber lives behind and begin our long awaited journey around the Great Circle. Join us as we travel 10, 000 kilometers: through the historic Trent Severn Waterway; the pristine waters of Georgian Bay; the North Channel of lake Huron; and hop from beach to beach on lake Michigan. We will visit Chicago and begin our trek along the rivers: Illinois; upper Mississippi; Ohio; Cumberland: Tennessee; Tenn-Tom Waterway and the Black Warrior. We will have transited through 68 locks at this juncture. We have chosen the inner route from Mobile Alabama to Tarpon Springs Florida and the shorter Ocheechobee Waterway to reach the East coast of Florida. We will skip over to the Bahamas to wait out the winter before heading North on the Atlantic Inter Coastal Waterway.
The 10 years of researching and planning are finally at an end and we invite you to come along on our adventure.

South Santee River South Carolina

We went to the bar for happy hour at 5:00 because it was 95 degrees on the dock. We met some really nice folks including a couple from Normandy.  I was able to practice my French.  They ordered from the kid's menu because they agree that the portions are outrageously large.  I will start doing that, I was ordering an appetizer to get a reasonable meal.
Charleston South Carolina
We did not visit Charleston, we will do it when we come back by car. I tried to take pictures of Charleston this morning but the sound was a little rough so not much to see. The rest of the day was spent on a narrow section of the ICW with lots of shoal spots.  We will leave at high to mid tide from now on.  We actually did a bit of ploughing today.
Not a great morning in Charleston
Not much to see at this anchorage (N33 09.10 and W79 19.47) more salt grass and far away trees. Tomorrow we will reach Myrtle Beach but we will most likely anchor out a short distance from Osprey Marina so we can arrive early in the morning and get all our chores done in one day. We are getting fuel since it is much cheaper than anywhere else. There is also a propane fill up near by so we will be all set to go back out on the hook.

Anchorages are looking somewhat the same as the last ones
