Preparing for the trip

Captain Jerry has been making the final preparations to North Star, our 32 foot Cape Island down east trawler. We are anxious to leave our landlubber lives behind and begin our long awaited journey around the Great Circle. Join us as we travel 10, 000 kilometers: through the historic Trent Severn Waterway; the pristine waters of Georgian Bay; the North Channel of lake Huron; and hop from beach to beach on lake Michigan. We will visit Chicago and begin our trek along the rivers: Illinois; upper Mississippi; Ohio; Cumberland: Tennessee; Tenn-Tom Waterway and the Black Warrior. We will have transited through 68 locks at this juncture. We have chosen the inner route from Mobile Alabama to Tarpon Springs Florida and the shorter Ocheechobee Waterway to reach the East coast of Florida. We will skip over to the Bahamas to wait out the winter before heading North on the Atlantic Inter Coastal Waterway.
The 10 years of researching and planning are finally at an end and we invite you to come along on our adventure.

Canada Day in Peterborough

Canada day was perfect with sunny skies, a slight breeze and 28 degrees Celsius. Del Crary park hosted International day with food from various countries and singing and dancing groups from around the globe. Russia, Poland, Holland and many Carribean and Asian fare was available.  I opted for the Caribbean chicken curry roti while Jerry chose the Asian and American food.
We watched the parade and returned to the boat to listen to the International concert while swimming off the T pier.
We went back to the evening concert which was very good and well attended. The band played until the fireworks started shortly after 10:00.  For the size of this city, they really put on a good pyrotechnics show.  They set them off from a platform on Little lake so everyone has a good view from the park along the shoreline.
We are leaving today to go 12 locks up the system to Buckhorn Lake.  We will anchor so I am not sure if we will have internet access. We are off to Cobaconck the next day so we should be connected there.
