Preparing for the trip
Captain Jerry has been making the final preparations to North Star, our 32 foot Cape Island down east trawler. We are anxious to leave our landlubber lives behind and begin our long awaited journey around the Great Circle. Join us as we travel 10, 000 kilometers: through the historic Trent Severn Waterway; the pristine waters of Georgian Bay; the North Channel of lake Huron; and hop from beach to beach on lake Michigan. We will visit Chicago and begin our trek along the rivers: Illinois; upper Mississippi; Ohio; Cumberland: Tennessee; Tenn-Tom Waterway and the Black Warrior. We will have transited through 68 locks at this juncture. We have chosen the inner route from Mobile Alabama to Tarpon Springs Florida and the shorter Ocheechobee Waterway to reach the East coast of Florida. We will skip over to the Bahamas to wait out the winter before heading North on the Atlantic Inter Coastal Waterway.
The 10 years of researching and planning are finally at an end and we invite you to come along on our adventure.

Coboconk
Well we left Seaweed Island on a beautiful sunny morning. It was Sunday on a long week end so we knew the locks would be busy. We crossed Buckhorn,Pigeon, Sturgeon and Cameron lakes. Cottagers in their speed boats and seadoos were everywhere.
We only transited 3 locks and stopped to visit friends Carl and Beth in Rosedale.
We are tied up at the municipal dock in Coboconk (N44 39.471' and W078 47.825'. There is a laundromat and convenience store across thestreet. The beer store and grocery store are a short walk from the dock.
We worked on boat chores, did the laundry and groceries today but still managed some bike riding and swimming. The Newfoundland flag is causing quite a stir with a steady streem of Newfoundlanders stopping by to chat. Who knew there were so many here?
Tomorrow we are off to anchor in Balsam Lake to fish and swim. Balsam lake is the highest fresh water lake in Canada at 256 meters above sea level. From this point on we willbe going down the locks as opposed to being lifted up.
I will blog tomorrow if connectivity allows.
